Inspiration: The world’s most consequential artificial ski slope is officially open

The keynote speaker at the 1MillionStartups Global Conference Mr. Patrik Gustavsson, CEO of the Amager Bakke Foundation which runs the ski slope, told us the story about Copenhill. This innovative sports facility featuring a ski slope located on the roof of the new waste-to-energy plant in the heart of Copenaghen is now officially open.

06.12.2019.

Copenhill is an artificial mountain located in central Copenhagen just 3.5 kilometers from the city’s town hall square. The visitors will be able to walk, hike, climb and ski on Copenhill. The roof park is placed on top of one of the world's cleanest and energy-efficient waste-to-energy plants. The plant supplies greater Copenhagen with electricity and central heating.

With its 90 meters of height and 200 meters of length, and a total roof area of approximately 3.5 football fields, combined with its distinct architecture, the building is a landmark for the region. The mountainous shape of the building will invite visitors for a sensational experience and serious recreational
usages.

It is an overall objective for Copenhill to help make the citizens aware of the environmental benefits of waste-to-energy facilities and the need for everybody to treat waste as a resource.

The plant is designed by the Danish architects BIG in collaboration with the landscape architects SLA.
