Whatchado is a career platform for job starters. It is both innovative and intuitive. Most job postings have a quite similar look and do not give a true insight into the actual job – with whatchado, people talk openly in short video clips about what's cool about their jobs and what kind of limitations they might encounter. This way, whatchado creates transparency, avoids frustration and increases the chances of a successful mediation between employers and applicants.
We asked Jubin Honarfar, CEO of whatchado to tell us more about what they are doing:
"We offer young people an innovative and timely approach to career orientation through storytelling on our online platform. People present their respective professions and education using a standardized set of questions in video format. Fascinating personalities, an innovative whatchado Interest Test as well as authentic guidance in both career orientation and in the search for the right apprenticeship offer a completely new and comprehensive form of knowledge transfer. Freely and independently, young people are offered the opportunity to find out about the job market or on how to continue their education. Moreover, the whatchado platform offers entry-level Jobs in Austria and is set to expand its offering to all German-speaking countries. whatchado does not only counteract the lack of orientation but also seeks to offer the same access to knowledge to everyone.
In addition to our main product – The Career Platform for Job Starters – we also try our best to make career orientation in schools more interesting and tangible through numerous other initiatives, such as whatchaSKOOL. Our vision is to inspire educational institutions, teachers, pupils, parents, and companies to reflect on career orientation and to create an open and inclusive community in which everyone can exchange information, build confidence and share ideas without fear. At whatchado, our close link to the educational sector has proved to us how vital it is to get young people excited about career orientation and their personal development. With our early approach to young people, we do not only wish to contribute to a change in awareness within our society but at the same time make provisions for the future: dealing with the world of work, education and training early and consciously can protect people from wrong decisions with which they might be unhappy with. Consequently, our goal is to reduce both, drop-out rates at educational institutions and employee turnover in companies."
SDG4 is all about Quality Education. What is your point of view on education?
"Not a long time ago we've been told by our parents that we will have safe jobs for our entire life and a decent pension. That safety thinking does not exist anymore. There are many new challenges for young generations, but also many new opportunities. To face these new challenges it is absolutely essential that every person has the same access to education without any barriers. Education does not start or end at the entrance door of a school or college. Education will accompany us throughout our entire life. And we need to embrace it!"
