Rising Tide Europe movement strives to create opportunities for women to thrive in their professional and personal lives and increase the number of women decision-makers across industries.
"We do this by promoting financial knowledge and independence and increasing women’s access to an important asset class through a portfolio of early-stage companies.
We will act as stewards of good governance to our portfolio companies, guiding and supporting businesses that are committed to equitable pay, workplace conditions, governance, and leadership practices."
Here is what Mrs. Brigitte Baumann, one of the lead investors, told us about the Rising Tide Europe and their contribution to SDG 5:
"Sustainable Development Goal number 5 is very close to my heart as it endeavors to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Bringing equality in angel investing is at the core of why Rising Tide Europe was created. Despite some progress over the years, there is still a big challenge in early-stage investing: women's participation is around 7% globally. That was a key driver behind deciding to launch Rising Tide Europe in 2015 and increase women's participation in angel investing as an asset class. Today we are proud to say we have over 200 women from more than 30 countries across 5 different continents that have taken part in one or more Rising Tide Europe learning-investing-networking programmes. Equal can also mean different. Rising Tide Europe is also bringing innovation to the world of early-stage investing with its unique learning by doing approach and its do Good and do Well investments.
The Sustainable Development Goals do a wonderful job of highlighting some of the world's most pressing challenges. For angel investors, they provide a great framework to focus our efforts to address these social and environmental problems. I truly believe that investors have a huge role to play in contributing to the achievement of these goals by 2030, by deploying capital to high impact projects and entrepreneurs that are at the forefront of innovation. At Rising Tide Europe, to date, we have so far invested in 19 European early-stage companies many of them contributing to SDG goals.
Through our programmes, we are looking to empower women across the globe through financial education, investing in European startups, and creating a unique network to increase women’s participation at all levels of angel investing. Together, the Limited Partners of Rising Tide Europe, are changing the world one deal at a time.
What is The Rising tide?
The Rising Tide Europe 1 (RTE1) programme is part of a global movement to increase women’s participation in angel investing as an asset class. It has been developed to provide an enriching learning-by-doing experience; including building an investment portfolio in start-ups, and education of the investment processes and the development of a global angel community of successful businesswomen across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the USA.
Rising Tide Europe 1 is a group of 93 successful businesswomen from 31 countries across 4 continents who have pooled over €1.000.000 to be invested in 6-10 early-stage European companies. EBAN, Go Beyond Investing and Next Wave (US) partnered to bring together the Rising Tide Europe programmes.
The RTE1 programme is being steered by nine women who are also the lead investors. These successful businesswomen have significant angel investing experience and are dedicated to increasing the number of female business angels worldwide.
The programme has established a portfolio of eight companies, four of which have already received follow-on re-investment.
