This week gives us a great opportunity to give you an update on one of our own projects where we are working towards Quality Education for all: Mamas2Mamas. With the Mamas2Mamas project, initiated by our board member Candace Johnson, we are working on providing education to as many young and older people, in cooperation with Duncan Kaloi.
What's new since we last wrote about the Mamas2Mamas project?
Students in Suswa village, Kenya started assembling the computers which they received as a donation with the Mamas2Mamas project. Mamas2Mamas Lab at the Suswa Secondary school is ready to be launched, and it will mark the start of our active work on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education. It brings us much joy that new ideas were developed from the initial Mamas2Mamas project and we will now work on promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all through the Youth2Youth, then Youth2Mamas and lastly Mamas2Mamas project.
"There’s a tremendous amount of work to get done. We make sure to laugh a lot, so that helps. At the end of the day, working a high growth startup has led me to grow and change a lot in the past year and that’s invaluable." said Duncan in his latest post.
This young entrepreneur won our hearts with his positive spirit and amazing work with his first startup Maasaiduka, which he presented on the 1MillionStartups Global Conference 2018. The same event where the Mamas2Mamas project started. Duncan is a first-generation college student from his Maasai family, a Computer scientist, and Economist; making a change to his community through three startups initiatives. He is also the author of an Impact book which he dedicated to each family in his community, in order to eradicate poverty.
With the Mamas2Mamas project, you work towards achieving the SDG4. What does that mean to you and your community?
"The combination of both traditional and modern knowledge is needed. Much to say is that both learners and teachers can share and educate each other. Education is the key to unlock potential in my community. I'm trying to build an ecosystem of education, where my community can educate themselves to be innovators and inventors of the modern society. To people in my community, education is the key component to elevate lives from poverty." said Duncan.
