Energy calls for strength, power, light, speed, dynamism, and growth. It is therefore incontestable to assert that energy, whether conventional or otherwise, has a vital value and is essential for development. Likewise, in most northern countries, the development of the energy sector has greatly contributed to economic prosperity. But on the side of sub-Saharan African countries, for example, like Benin, energy weakness and insufficiency constitute fertile ground that fuels poverty, underdevelopment, and various social problems.

Today, many (over 60%) of Beninese still do not have access to electricity, especially in rural areas. In many regions of Benin, nighttime economic activity is nonexistent. Many men and women only have access to very limited energy resources: a little wood for heating and cooking, candles or a kerosene lamp for lighting. Safety is an issue, and hospitals cannot function properly. Children are not able to study under decent lighting in the evening or do their homework by candlelight. At the same time, due to lack of access to energy, many Beninese give up their souls every year due to indoor pollution or following a fire caused by the use of solid fuels, which in addition to being expensive, are harmful.

BENIN ENERGIE was created on March 31, 2018, in order to provide clean, sustainable, accessible and competitively priced energy solutions in priority in rural areas of Benin and not connected to public networks. The Benin Energy association is an initiative by young Beninese to contribute to the lasting resolution of energy problems in Benin. It is an association of research, creation, invention, innovation, training, and development of various sources of energy.

WHAT IS BENIN ENERGIE'S VISION?

BENIN ENERGIE's vision is to contribute to making electricity accessible by 2030 to 100% of the Beninese population without risk of shortage, without threat to human health, wherever it is and whatever their social situation in Benin.

"Energy is one of the essential factors for the qualification of Benin as a country with an emerging economy. Access to energy in sufficient quantity and at low cost is one of the conditions necessary for the development of economic activities and the creation of jobs; improving the living conditions of populations and the fight against poverty." said the president Mr. Enock M. HOUNHOUI

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF BENIN ENERGIE?

BENIN ENERGIE offers concrete solutions in Benin by facilitating access to energy through innovative, clean and accessible solar solutions. It favors technologies that respect the environment, in their diversity. The general objective of BENIN ENERGIE is to work for the development of the energy sector in Benin.

Among the specific objectives of BENIN ENERGIE are:

•           To work for the accessibility of energy (conventional and decentralized) to all social strata;

•           Contribute to promoting the use of renewable energies in Benin;

•           Promote research and initiatives favorable to low-cost energy;

•           Support people to adopt energy consumption practices favorable to the safeguard of non-renewable natural resources;

•           Intervene on energy issues with the objective of helping the development of disadvantaged populations, while respecting the environment;

•           Give young people a taste for energy, giving priority to orienting young girls in the professions of the future.
