“The image I get from my work is of a Europe circling a roundabout, uncertain about its direction and the human rights obligations which member states voluntarily agreed upon,” says the Commissioner Dunja Mijatović, adding that the current COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating long-standing problems and emphasizing the weaknesses of Europe’s human rights protection system.

“The fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war” said Guterres. “That is why today, I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world. It is time to put the armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives.”
